January 2nd 2012
So here we are... a new year! 12 years (or 11 depending on how you count) have past since the new millennium started. A lot has changed... and a lot hasn't. Nothing new there, right? But we are the catalyst for change so if we want to blame anyone who should we blame? The blame game is a losing proposition for everyone involved anyway, so we'll leave it behind us on this 2nd day of this new year and contemplate all the things that are awaiting us, all the things which will make our journey worth making.
2011 was a remarkable year in many ways! Marvelous things happened in the middle of heart breaking events. Those things are there for us to discover... they don't just appear miraculously in front of our eyes. We have to seek them and can do so.
We wish all of you the best for 2012 and hope you can find it in yourself to seek those marvelous things that will happen again this year. Success is not easy but the important thing is to tend towards it... eventually we'll look back and be proud of all we've done even though it wasn't exactly what we thought we would accomplish. It's most likely a better feeling than stagnation.
We hope to see you here on this site and in the cyber world on a regular basis and to meet you in person on the road! We will have some tours going this year as well as finish remastering the back catalog of the label (one album to go!) and release a couple new albums this year.
Once again, all the best for 2012 and keep it happening!

A New Beginning
After an extraordinary 2011 it was time to reflect and rethink some of our goals for the label and its musicians.
Mad Ducks Records started reemerging in a more mature entity in mid-2008. The label finally had an internet presence with an e-store and artists recording regularly, sometime in mid-2010.
We’ve moved on from some defunct bands and projects, some which we were extremely lucky to record and thus keep their music alive in a way. Those roots are still with us as several of those early musicians are still part of the Mad Ducks family. In fact the label has a core of musicians playing on many of its releases and doing the work necessary to get this music out there in the cyber world but in the real world as well! Without that core team, the label would have succumbed a long time ago.
After the past couple of years, we’ve readjusted our goals a bit. We still record and produce all of the music that we have on this site but we are also doing band management, promotion and marketing, as well as tour booking and organizing.
We are also looking at releasing more albums in physical format. It is more costly but such a better product than intangible downloads. It is very fulfilling to touch an album you’ve worked on for years! But the most important reason: the sound is so much better! Most people might not realize the difference but after listening to many many MP3s and then to the CD versions, there is an uncontestable difference! MP3s are lower quality by nature and have difficulties reproducing the basses and the higher levels of the audio spectrum. So look forward to more CDs in the future! Which means nice and interesting packaging too!
It is true that, today a musician can keep his freedom and take his destiny in his own hands. That’s why we are starting to do much more than just producing music. An independent artist cannot forget all of the various parts in crafting his art and showing it to the world. A professional artist takes the risk of putting his art out there and live from it... Else you can just do it in your basement (and there is nothing wrong with that). Doing so requires sometimes focusing on aspects that are not purely music... but it does promote the music. It also means promoting it truthfully rather than force-feeding it to its audience.
There are amazing opportunities, networks, groups of like-minded people working in the same way, towards the same direction… everywhere in the World. And those bridges are being created as we speak! We always welcome your feedback and suggestions because it builds those bridges. This whole endeavor is to share something unique so don't hesitate!
There is one thing that has not changed since we first set our goals on paper: the sky is the limit... or rather our imagination is the limit!
(you can read our previous “plan” here).
