New demo for DJ Lion-O's new album. (Rough version...) As the green smoke began to rise and the hands of the man on the moon struck midnight, the beat of an army of drums invaded the air with one of its soldiers unaware of his fate as DJ Lion-O. DJ Lion-O is Tom Hoole. His alter ego DJ Lion-O began his musical journey at the Wednesday night drum circles hosted by the Last Concert Café located in Houston’s industrial district. LCC is notorious for its frozen sangria and hippies twisting their hips with gi-garmous hoola-hoops dancing to the beat of the local talent performing. After this launching pad had reached its end, DJ Lion-O was soon to join the ranks of the French band 4Element where he played hand percussion for the progressive rock project. This is where he began his experimentation with electronics and writing of prose. To this day he keeps writing and has written scores of songs. This was a training ground for our bright-eyed anti-hero, where he learned the importance of dynamic and transition which to this day flows through his veins the same as his red blood cells. After a couple of years in the 4Element progressive discipline, the student found himself on his own to continue his musical path. After a brief hiatus, through the grace of the Gods and Goddesses of the universe, he was visited by a muse named shaka whose positive energy toward all sound inspired DJ Lion-O to continue in his craft of tweaking sounds and turning knobs. This is where the songs Stripper Girl and Roman Orgy were conceived. Finally after maybe a year or more of that, DJ Lion-O approached Cedric to work on a 3 song EP... it ended up being a full-blown album! That's how DJ Lion-O and the Naked Troubadours were born! Dirty Desires was finally finished in April 2008. He has now moved onto higher playing fields where he mixes full-length albums. Soy Montana and Altered are two new opuses that kept the team busy for most of 2008. They are now both out (the first one December 2008; the second one January 2009). They are two very different albums, made at different times and reflecting DJ Lion-O's own state of mind while making those albums. Currently, DJ Lion-O is working on a painting series in tribute to the Dirty Desires, which will be entirely unveiled in 2010 under the pseudonym Boy Next Door. There are already some paintings finished, which you can see here. He is also writing an instructional book on Photoshop called 'The ADD Approach To Photoshop'. This book is being written from the viewpoint of how to use Photoshop to its creative potential. |
